The best photo spots: Seceda
One of the most stunning and iconic mountain-sceneries can be found at Seceda. The sharp mountains are reaching up and seem to try to “cut open” the sky above. This “brutal” scene is accompanied by some of the greenest meadows around and if you are lucky, some purple lupins contribute to an even more fairytale-like appearance.
Read below how to get to Seceda and where to find the best photo spots.
By Hike
Starting Point: Seceda Cable Car, Col Reiser
End point: Seceda Cable Car
Altitude difference: about 470m
Length: about 10 km
Duration: about 3 ½ hours
By Cable Car
Another way to get to Seceda is by cable car and believe me, when I say, that it is not less adventurous than a hike. The Seceda cable car starts at St. Ulrich and you have to interchange to a second cable car at Furnes. Especially the second part of the cable car from Furnes to Seceda is a small adventure as the cable car almost seems to “scratch” along the mountain and goes “straight upwards” the mountain side.
Tickets for a roundtrip cost about 36€ per Person.
Seceda is one of those places, in which you not just feel small, but you also realize the amazing forces of nature and earth.
The Seceda mountains are part of the Gruppo delle Odle (Geislergruppe), which can best be seen from the famous Villnösstal. There is also a mountain tour, connecting Seceda and the Gruppo delle Odle. But as this tour requires a lot of climbing, it should only be “hiked” by qualified climbers.
The scenery looks impressive from each and every angle, but never loses its sensation. The following two photos were taken at the famous lower view point (coordinates: 46.6008277327116, 11.726531325791477), close to the “Restaurant Seceda”. You have to hike up the hill behind the restaurant into the direction of the summit cross. From here you have to take the stairs to the view point. Pay attention when using them, as they are narrow and partly broken.
Another great photo spot can be found, if you head to the “Foreclla Pana” (coordinates: 46.60130115858157, 11.735606958005734). The path leads along the Seceda ridgeline and offers great views of the vertical, sharp cliffs.
The famous Seceda mountains are one of a kind, but do not miss to take some time to also enjoy the views around. The massive Sellaronda and the “Lang- and Plattkoffel” paint a picture-perfect mountain landscape.
Grab your favorite person and enjoy the views!
You can easily explore Seceda within half a day, if you decide to take the cable car. If you do so, you can take the chance and explore more spots closeby, such as:
- Alpe di Suisi (Seiser Alm)
- The cities of: St. Ulrich, Kastelruth and Seis
- Passo Gardena & Cima Gran Cir
- Karersee
