On your ride through the canyon, you will also have the opportunity to spot various animals such as crocodiles and a wide variety of birds that call the canyon their home.

The Sumidero Canyon has a rich history. In the past, it was considered a holy place for the Aztecs. However, a tragic chapter was added to its history when the Spanish conquered the region and the indigenous inhabitants opted for suicide over enslavement, choosing to plunge to their deaths from the one-kilometer high cliffs of the canyon.

Boat rides start from the small village of San Francisco and typically last about two hours. The boat takes you through the entire canyon to the Chicoasén Dam and back.
